Susan takes a writing class in London, where she meets the love of her life.
When Adam develops depression and meets a psychiatrist, Dr. Ella Brown, she suggests that he and Susan may be the same person. Ella convinces Adam that he suffers from Dissociative Personality Disorder as well as Gender Identity Disorder. She tells Adam that Susan represents himself and encourages him to express himself as Susan would. Slowly, Adam develops a desire to feminize and develop a body like a woman’s.

Dr. Ella Brown: is a reputed 38-year-old psychiatrist who practices in Kensington. She is 5’5, blonde and sturdily built. Ella’s violet eyes have a hypnotic charm. She comes across as warm, empathetic and encouraging. She becomes Adam’s psychiatrist, friend and philosopher.
She tells Adam that he must express himself as Susan. She encourages him to wear women’s clothing, write poetry and masturbate. Ella supports Adam’s decision to feminize.
Leo Chester: is Susan’s 22-year-old friend. Leo is 6 feet tall and handsome, with red hair and grey eyes. He is a rich business man’s son, who is taking the same writing course as Susan.
Leo takes Susan out on two dates. He finds her pretty, bewitching and enigmatic. He loves her dressing style and is blown away by her poetry. Leo truly loves Susan and is supportive of her.
Molly Beckwell: is Adam’s 55-year-old mother. She is a kindergarten teacher, a strict Christian and a careless mom. Molly leaves her only son in charge of her not-so-stable househusband. Molly has an idea that her husband is a pedophile who is abusing their son, but doesn’t wish to accept the truth.
Lewis Beckwell: is Adam’s deceased father. He succumbed to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at age 57. He was a househusband, who was expected to look after Adam. Lewis pretended to be a very strict Christian but was a gay pedophile, who abused his son on multiple occasions. He was also a physically violent man, who suppressed his son’s natural instinct towards English literature and poetry. He wanted his son to study “hard facts” and pushed him towards the finance field.
Due to the abuse, he suffered as a child, Adam develops Dissociative Personality Disorder. He creates a female alter called Susan, who can never be abused by a gay pedophile. Susan dresses and expresses herself as she likes. She is a carefree girl, who writes poetry.
Clara Smith: is Ella’s beautiful, black receptionist. Clara is in her early 20s, tall and statuesque. She is friendly and polite. When Clara goes on a 3-month leave, Susan replaces her as the receptionist.
Darlene Hailey: is an elderly teacher, who teaches writing. Miss Hailey thinks Susan is talented and encourages her writing. Miss Hailey is shocked when Susan misses classes for 9 months. When she hears of reasons for Susan’s absence, she is sympathetic. Miss Hailey helps Susan to catch up with her lessons and pass her exams.
Arthur Wright: is a doctor and a friend of Ella’s. He visits Ella’s home and asks if she has got any new hobbies. Ella replies in the affirmative and replies that she has started writing poetry.
Lacy Wright: is a doctor and Arthur’s wife. She is interested in listening to the poetry Ella has supposedly written. Ella reads out Susan’s poetry and pretends it is her own.
Sally Chester: is Leo Chester’s sister. Susan sees her with Leo in a restaurant and confuses her to be his girlfriend.
Hugh Clark: is the portly middle-aged landlord of a block of student housing. In order to ascertain that Susan exists, Adam asks Mr. Clark to give him the key to Susan’s flat. Hugh Clark tells Adam that the flat is in an uninhabitable condition. Adam insists on seeing the flat. Clark accompanies Adam to the flat and opens the lock. Adam realizes that the flat is not ready for human occupancy.
